Miniature Murals

These small murals were commissioned by a collector after the Lalit Kala Akademi show. I wondered how I would be able to work on such small sizes and still retain the elaborate styling - after the first few, i realized that the key was not to shrink the larger details, but work with an entirely new set suited to the scale.

The last two are a result of a twist in my brush ! :)

Marinel, Sharonel and Hyzarel have finally seen light of day. This is a pattern i worked on almost two years ago. once i was satisfied with body parts, i decided that i would break from my previous pattern of large, expressive eyes, which were drawing attention away from the rest of the faces, and work on the other features. I also kept the face coloring very light and subtle.

The hair was as usual playtime for me - from unravelled furnishing samples to quilting scraps, the elvenfolk gave me a free hand.

But then i hit a roadblock, and the whole project moved onto a shelf where it stayed for two years. Until last week when someone called asking for dolls. i dug these people out, and here they are - three of a circle of six
